Information We Collect

When you visit this website and any Northwest website, online interface, mobile site, or mobile application that links to this Privacy Statement (each a "Website” and collectively "Websites"), we may collect Personal Information and/or Aggregate Information. We use the term "Personal Information" to mean any information that can identify a specific individual. We use the term "Aggregate Information" to refer to any information that does not allow us to identify a specific individual, such as demographic information, information about the device used to access our Website(s), browser information or areas visited on our Websites.

Personal information includes certain types of information such as name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, account number and transaction history, social security number, driver’s license or other government identification numbers you voluntarily provide via online forms, surveys, applications for new banking products, when enrolling in our digital banking services, etc. when you visit our Website(s). We may also collect information about you from identity verification services and consumer reporting agencies, including credit bureaus, in order to provide some of our services. We may also collect information about you from your online browsing and transactions, including details of transactions you carry out through our Website(s) or associated mobile applications.

We may also collect your preferences, pages visited, technical information regarding your computer and operating systems, such as your Internet protocol address, websites from which visitors access our Website(s), the types of web browsers used to access our Website(s), the device used to access our website and the pages viewed, search queries on the website, and user’s location and system configuration and settings.

Cookies, Similar Files and Other Technologies

Cookies are electronic files placed on your device to gather information related to visits to and usage of our Website(s). How We Use Your Information

Your Choice About Receiving Promotional Emails

We send email communications to provide the most relevant information to customers regarding Northwest products and services. If you would not like to receive promotional emails from us, you may click on the opt-out link at the bottom of the email to be omitted from future marketing email distributions. This opt out does not apply to transactional communications from Northwest in connection with providing services on an account.

To protect your privacy, messages from Northwest will never ask you for any information through an email requesting that you provide personal information to us such as account number, social security number or driver license number. If you receive an email appearing to be from Northwest requesting personal information, please do not respond and contact our Security Department immediately at 1-877-672-5678.

Mobile App

We offer the ability to access some of our products and services through mobile applications to help make it easy to manage your finances on the go. When you interact with us through our mobile app, we may collect additional information in the following ways:

  • Device data, such as your computer’s or mobile device’s operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, browser type, screen resolution, RAM and disk size, CPU usage, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, unique identifiers, language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., Wi-Fi, LTE, 3G), and general location information such as city, state or geographic area.
  • Local storage technologies, like HTML5 and Flash, that provide cookie-equivalent functionality but can store larger amounts of data, including on your device outside of your browser in connection with specific applications.
  • Web beacons, also known as pixel tags or clear GIFs, which are used to demonstrate that a webpage or email was accessed or opened, or that certain content was viewed or clicked.
  • Location Information. If you have enabled location services on your phone and agree to the collection of your location when prompted by the Services, we will collect location data when you use the Services even when the app is closed or not in use; for example, to provide our fraud detection services. If you do not want us to collect this information, you may decline the collection of your location when prompted or adjust the location services settings on your device.
We disclose your personal information collected through your use of the mobile app as described below:

(a) In Accordance with our other Privacy Notices. Other than as described here in connection with the mobile app, our Privacy Notices apply to the processing of your information by us or third parties with whom we share information.

(b) Third Party Service Providers. We may share your personal information with third party or affiliated service providers that perform services for or on behalf of us in providing the mobile app, for the purposes described in these Privacy Statements, including: to provide you with the Services; to conduct quality assurance testing; to facilitate the creation of accounts; to optimize the performance of the mobile app; to provide technical support; and/or to provide other services to the mobile app.


Live Chat

Disclosure of any information by you, whether in the text of a live chat session, or any personal data contained in an email message, including an email address, is strictly voluntary. You are under no obligation whatsoever to offer Northwest any personal information via live chat or email.

All chat sessions may be monitored for quality assurance purposes. Chat sessions are secure using HTTPS Technology. We make no representation regarding the security of your personal computer or internet access, and we expressly disclaim any and all liability arising from breeches or damages arising there from.

Our Customer Service Representatives will identify themselves in chat so customers or participants can identify that they are speaking with a Northwest representative.

Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.

Penalty for False Statements. The US Criminal Code (Title 18 US Code Section 1001) provides that whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully - (1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact; (2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or (3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry; shall be fined or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

Do not respond to any unsolicited emails, telephone calls or other communications that claim to come from Northwest, or any unknown person asking you to submit personal data.


Restrictions on Account Information Disclosure

Specific account information cannot be accessed unless any one of the following items occurs:

  • The customer requests or authorizes the release of information, or
  • The requested information is needed to complete a transaction initiated by the customer, or
  • Such information is provided to a reputable credit bureau or similar information reporting agency, or
  • Disclosure is legally required or permitted.

We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your nonpublic personal information.


Maintaining Customer Accuracy of Information

We maintain procedures to respond timely to requests regarding inaccurate information. You should contact us immediately at 1-877-672-5678 or e-mail us at info@northwest.com if you have information that you believe inaccurately portrays your banking relationship with us.


Providing Privacy Information to Customers

We make our policy regarding confidentiality of customer information available publicly. Protection of Social Security Numbers

Social Security Numbers are treated as confidential information under Northwest’s Protecting the Privacy of Customer Information Policy. As such, Social Security Numbers may only be accessed by and disclosed to Northwest employees and others with a legitimate business “need to know” in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Social Security Numbers, whether in paper or electronic form, are subject to physical, electronic and procedural safeguards and must be stored, transmitted and disposed of in accordance with the provisions of our Protecting the Privacy of Customer Information Policy applicable to confidential information. These restrictions apply to all Social Security Numbers collected or retained by Northwest in connection with customer, employee or other relationships.


Protecting Children’s Privacy Online

We respect the privacy of children and comply with practices under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which protects children under the age of 13 from the online collection of personal information. We do not knowingly solicit, collect, or retain data from children, and we do not knowingly market to children. Do Not Call Policy

We maintain a Do Not Call record of the name and telephone number(s) of both customers and non-customers and will add to the Northwest Internal Do Not Call List within thirty (30) business days of receipt of such request. This record will be retained for at least five (5) years.

Consumers are responsible for notifying Northwest of any changes in name or telephone number if they move or wish to place a new telephone number on the Northwest Internal Do Not Call List. Consumers are responsible for notifying Northwest if there is more than one telephone line or number that they wish to place on the Northwest Internal Do Not Call List.

Consumers have additional avenues available to help reduce or eliminate unwanted telephone solicitations. Consumers may place their telephone number(s) on the National Do Not Call Registry by calling 1-888-382-1222 or online at https://www.donotcall.gov/. The Direct Marketing Association also offers a free service called "Telephone Preference Service”. We have established and implemented written procedures to honor consumers' requests that they not be solicited via telemarketing activities, and appropriate personnel have received training. Procedures include consultation of both the National Do Not Call Registry and the Northwest Internal Do Not Call List prior to making any telephone solicitation.

Telephone solicitation calls to consumers with whom we have an established business relationship are permitted unless a consumer has asked to be included on the Northwest Internal Do Not Call List. Calling customers regarding their existing accounts with Northwest does not constitute a telephone solicitation call.

No unsolicited facsimile solicitations will be initiated.

Northwest Bank is a banking institution based and chartered in the United States of America with subsidiary operating units including Northwest Investment Services. Northwest requires a customer to have an address within its United States’ community banking footprint when opening an account in order to participate in its services. Northwest uses the U.S. Dollar as its operating currency, English as its operating language and does not directly market its services within the European Union or toward European Member State citizens.
